Today, I wanted to share with you one of my (many) works in progress. This quilt is made of a simple block (I believe it's technically a variation on the traditional Jacob's Ladder block).
The block is fairly easy to make. Each block is made of (2) 4-patches and (2) half-square triangles of the same size.

To make this exact quilt, you'll need 25 of those Jacob's Ladder Variation blocks. Then rotate them to create really cool designs! You'll be amazed how many different looks you can create just by twisting and turning the blocks. I think the offset center gives this traditional block a really modern feel.

I used very traditional fabrics in this quilt: a white tone-on-tone and a yellow (traditionally known as "cheddar"). I love the way these fabrics play together, but I think I'd love it just as much with bright prints and a gray background. Who knows? Maybe I'll make one in those colors, too...

What size were your block?
ReplyDeleteHi Jean - Good question. The unfinished block is 6.5" x 6.5". Each half-square triangle and 4-patch is 3.5" x 3.5". Once I add a border, this will be a nice size for a baby quilt, but it would be very easy to make the quilt larger by either making more blocks, or by increasing the size of the block to, say, 12.5" x 12.5".
