Announcing: National Craft Month Knit-Along

It's one day until March 1. I thought I'd take the opportunity to introduce myself and officially announce Stitch Craft Create's first-ever Knit-Along!

I've been a knitter for about five years, and I'm just starting to dabble in crochet (it's fun!). My love of all things yarn-y is put to good use on a daily basis as an Editor for F+W Media. I love challenging projects, and my latest endeavors have included beaded lace and lots and lots of colorwork. I also teach classes at local yarn shops on the side.

I'm so excited to host this month's Knit-Along in conjunction with National Craft Month. The "Bonnie Birds Knee-Highs" from Knitting Knee-Highs by Barb Brown are a gorgeous pair of knee-length socks that would look great paired with a simple skirt--perfect in time for spring! At the end of the month, one lucky participant will win a fabulous prize.

It's easy to join the Knit-Along--just start knitting! As you do, photograph and share your work-in-progress via our Flickr page or, if you're a member of Ravelry, "cast on" a project from here.

Here's everything you need to know to join in the fun:
  1. Click here to download the free "Bonnie Birds" pattern from Knitting Knee-Highs. If this link doesn't work for you, email us and we'll send you the PDF.
  2. Choose two colors of sock-weight or fingering yarn and knit at least one sock, using either the knee-high version or sock version of the pattern (both are eligible).
  3. Submit your progress photos to our Flickr group pool or the pattern's Ravelry page. I'll be knitting right along with you, and will post my progress, as well as any tips and tricks I may have, on the blog.
  4. Finish at least one sock (either the knee-high or sock version) and send me a picture of the completed sock to this email address no later than March 25th. (Entries received after March 25th will not be eligible for judging.)
  5. On March 27th, Barb Brown (author of Knitting Knee-Highs) will announce one winner from the final photo submissions based on the most creative use of color and the quality of the finished sock.
  6. The winner will receive a copy of Knitting Knee-Highs, a copy of the next issue of Stitch Craft Create, and a skein of sock yarn from Fiber Optic Yarns.
I'll be using gorgeous blue and natural yarn from Fiber Optic Yarns, and I can't wait to get started. I hope you'll join me for a month of knitting fun!

Rachel is an Craft Editor by day and a knitting addict aficionado by night. In addition to knitting, she reads, bakes really terrible cornbread muffins, and spends way too much time on Ravelry. She can be found as rachelthepeach on Ravelry, and just plain Rachel on this blog. She lives in Northern Kentucky with her fiancé, two dogs, two rabbits, and way too much yarn.
