We are excited to announce the launch of a monthly series of Stitch Craft Create Twitter parties/chats! Our first SCC Tweet Meet will be held on Wednesday, August 29th at 9pm EST/8pm CST under the hashtag #SCCmeet.
As a kickoff to our September celebration of National Sewing Month, the theme of our first chat will be Experimenting with Sewing for beginners and intermediate-level sewists and crafters. Don't sew, but want to try it? Just started, and looking for encouragement? Interested in dabbling in something different than you're used to, be it quilting, garment-making or loosening up with mixed media? Join us - and hint, hint - you might even win a special prize or two!
You can find us leading the #SCCmeet conversation at @SCCmag (give us a follow!) But a party wouldn't be a party without some guests of honor, so joining us for our chat will be the following special guests:
Thomas Knauer - @waycoolkid
A fabric designer, quilter and author, Thomas is a self-professed beginner, having only begun sewing a few years ago. He has developed four fabric lines for Andover including the popular Savannah Bop, and a new line (coming soon) called Frippery. A published quilter with his first book in the works, Thomas blogs at Thomas Knauer Sews and guest blogs a column at Sew, Mama, Sew! called "Sew, Papa, Sew!" We are thrilled that he will begin writing a bimonthly column for Stitch Craft Create called "Modern Inspirations" in 2013.
Deborah Moebes - @whipstitch
The author of the bestselling book Stitch-by-Stitch, Deborah Moebes is a fifth-generation crafter and designer. Deborah is the owner of Whipstitch Fabrics, a thriving fabric shop and sewing lounge in the heart of Atlanta. She continues to add workshops and sewing events throughout the year, and regularly blogs tutorials, projects, and articles on the new sewing culture. Deborah was a teacher at our own School of Art Fashion this past July, and her second book, Stitch Savvy, releases this winter.
Jen Osborn - @themessynest
Jen Osborn is a third generation artist, writer, illustrator, and stitcher who lives in the heart of rural Michigan. An oft-published designer, her first book, Mixed and Stitched: Fabric Inspiration and How-To's for the Mixed Media Artist, was released in 2011. We are thrilled that her new column "Happy Home Goods" will be included in Stitch Craft Create starting in January 2013.
How do I join the conversation?
Anyone can follow along, but to participate, you'll need to have a public Twitter account so that everyone else can see your tweets. Then, starting at 9:00 p.m. Eastern (8:00 p.m. Central), follow along with the hashtag #SCCmeet, and jump in with your comments and questions! Just be sure to add #SCCmeet to the end of your tweets so that they can be seen by others who are not following you. We recommend using the chat room website Tweetchat.com, but you can also follow along with search.twitter.com or apps such as Tweetdeck or Hootsuite.
