Author Margot Potter on TLC's Craft Wars, PLUS a special sale & giveaway!

"Crafters, fire up your glue guns!" If you've been following us on Twitter the last few weeks (@SCCmag), you've probably noticed that things get a little busy on Tuesday evenings as we live-tweet along with viewers of TLC's new crafting reality show under hashtag #CRAFTWARS. We are having a blast watching the friendly, glittery competition, and have even been giving away prizes weekly to followers who tweet at us with their craft of choice! If you're not already, be sure to give us a follow and join in the fun. Take note that this week, Craft Wars moves to a new EARLIER time at 8/7C!

We're particularly pumped for tonight's episode, as one of our very own authors, Margot Potter, will be a contestant! Margot is a designer, author, freelance writer, consultant, public speaker, actor, vocalist and TV host. She creates innovative designs for major manufacturers and magazines, and teaches popular seminars and classes at stores and major craft and jewelry industry events. We have a little Q&A with Margot to share with you in anticipation of the show.

SCC: Thanks for chatting with us, Margot! You've managed to achieve what for many creatives and crafters is a dream career. What would your advice be to someone wanting to follow a similar path?
Margot Potter: My advice for success is three pronged. Do what you love. Do something you love for which you have a true proclivity. Be willing to do the hard work every day to make it real. It’s not all glitter and ribbons at Studio Madge, there are days I seriously consider running away and joining the circus, but I truly do love what I do and that makes even the toughest times worthwhile.

SCC: Tell us how you came to be a contestant on Craft Wars!
MP: I was recommended for the show and contacted by the producers to begin the audition process. There were a lot of hoops we had to jump through to make it through to the final 30. I’m so glad we made it, what a wild ride!

SCC: What was your favorite part of being involved with the show?
MP: My favorite part was being able to stretch myself and my abilities to the limit. You never know what you can really do until you’re forced to find out. Also, that Michael’s craft closet was seriously amazing. I could move in there.

SCC: If you had to describe your experience in just 3 words, what would it be?
MP: Exciting. Exhausting. Extraordinary.

SCC: What's your absolute most favorite craft supply?
MP: I can’t possibly pick a favorite craft supply, I love them all for different reasons! But anyone who knows me knows that I love a little sparkle on everything I do!

In celebration of Margot's appearance on Craft Wars, we've placed her books and ebooks on sale! Through July 31, visit our web store to get Margot's books at a discount of 48% or more. Click here to check out these fun celebration deals!

  5. I can't live without glitter! My favorite way to apply it is with glitter glue. I like the clear sparkle the best. It doesn't interfere with the colors in my art work, but it adds the glimmer needed for a spectacular finish.
