Swap Blocks

Have you ever participated in an online sewing bee or quilt block swap? You can find lots of them to join via Flickr and your online sewing network.

I've been participating in the NuBees block swap on Flickr for a few months now, and I wanted to share with you some of my blocks!

This swap is structured in small groups ("Hives" for the NuBees) of about 5 or 6 participants. Each participant makes a 12.5" block in any pattern they choose, but using the recipients' desired colors. Each month, I send out a block to each of my fellow swappers, and I receive envelopes from each of them in return. It's so nice to receive FUN mail instead of just bills!

These are the blocks I made for my NuBees March Hive:

The blocks I received in return are amazing! My colors are gray and white - very visual and graphic.

What colors would you want for your blocks?

Happy Stitching!

  1. Oh my goodness, thank you! I am about to make the backing for my second quilt and have been overwhelmed by which idea to start next. You have inspired me to join a block swap and focus on one idea. I don't know why it didn't occur to me before. Thanks again!

  2. I'm loving those green, teal, and white blocks. I've never done a block swap. Maybe I should! Thank you for sharing.

  3. Thank you, Robin! And you should definitely consider joining a swap. It's really nice connecting with people all over the world, and like I said in my post, it's really really nice getting something in the mail other than paperwork and bills!
