Make Perfectly Square Granny Squares with Sarah London

A question that Iʼm constantly asked is "How do you create such perfectly-formed granny
squares?"


When first embarking on learning how to crochet, most often than not a granny square is the first project on our list to master. Our first granny squares generally are a little wonky, the tension is usually a little loose, or, on the other end of the scale, tension is so tight that the granny square is quite skewed. My advice is always to persevere and that practice does make perfect!

Today Iʼd like to share with you a few basic steps in how to achieve a perfectly square granny square, first time, every time!

• Firstly, select your yarn. Read the band that accompanies the skein of your chosen yarn. Youʼll find the suggested crochet hook size recommended when working with that particular yarn. Take note!

• Secondly, I always only work two chain for my corners. I often notice three and even four chains are sometimes worked for corners. My recommendation is to work only two.

• Thirdly, the most important tip I can share is to slip stitch across into the corner space to finish each round worked. This is the essence of producing perfectly square granny squares!
