What's Worldwide Knit in Public Day, you ask? It's exactly what it sounds like! The "Day" is actually a week-long event occurring between the second and third Saturdays in June as an opportunity for crafters worldwide to meet and knit alongside one another outside of their usual creative spaces. Local volunteers organize get-togethers called "kips" that provide a place for knitters to congregate as they share their expertise and latest projects with each other -- as well as anyone else who happens to be passing by!
Events are always free and fun, and anyone of any skill level can be a volunteer host. You can find the kip that's closest to you or simply start one of your own -- just register your area on the WWKD website, get permission from a local cafe, shop or other visible space to hang out for the day, and knit away! The site even provides free fliers to help you get the word out to crafters in your area.
Knitters should bring their own yarn and needles, though you might want to bring extras of each in case you find yourself teaching a newly-interested crafter!
